When I first joined VIT Pune, like every curious fresher, I was eager to explore everything the campus had to offer. During orientation week, I came across TEDxVITPune. I had already watched countless TED talks on YouTube—those powerful ideas, inspiring stories, and thought-provoking perspectives had always fascinated me. So naturally, when I saw there was a TEDx community in college, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I wanted to see how such impactful events came to life behind the scenes.
When I first joined VIT Pune, like every curious fresher, I was eager to explore everything the campus had to offer. During orientation week, I came across TEDxVITPune. I had already watched countless TED talks on YouTube—those powerful ideas, inspiring stories, and thought-provoking perspectives had always fascinated me. So naturally, when I saw there was a TEDx community in college, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I wanted to see how such impactful events came to life behind the scenes.
Back then, I applied for the Multimedia domain. I was into editing and had been playing around with PicsArt for my Instagram posts and stories. To visually align with this year’s theme, we chose Thread Art as the core aesthetic for our stage design. The event was held in our college auditorium, where our team conceptualized large MDF panels as backdrops for the speakers. We began by coating the panels with POP to give them a smooth matte finish, followed by careful tracing of our designs.

From there, the real work began—hammering nails into place along the traced outlines, a task our team, especially the boys, took up with full energy.

The most time-consuming and crucial part, however, was threading. The patterns took shape slowly, and the work stretched late into the night before the event. So much so, we joked that even in sleep, our hands moved as if still wrapping thread.

Wanting to contribute something original, I used wood, nails, and a hammer from the resource room to create a cube-shaped hanging prop. The threading on it was done beautifully by my senior, making it a subtle yet meaningful addition to our setup.

How could we forget the Big X which is our center piece on college lawn, it was beautifully decorated by one of our senior. As you can see it is decorated using various material forming a beautiful mosaic following the theme fragments.

This year, we chose to work with POP art on MDF panels. Instead of going with the usual rectangle shapes, we decided to switch things up and cut the panels into circles of different sizes.
This gave the stage a playful, flowing look that matched the theme perfectly. The round shapes brought more life and energy to the design, making the setup feel unique and thoughtful.

The team really gave it their all. Everyone picked up a palette knife and got to work, filling the panels with colors mixed into POP.

Of course, the final decisions are generally made by the 4th-year core team, but the collaborative spirit is something that truly sets this committee apart.

This year has been a remarkable journey of growth, learning, and self-reflection. Looking back, I see how far I’ve come—not just in skills, but in mindset. I’ve started believing more in the power of execution, that ideas truly come alive when we dare to act on them.

My birthday fell during the event prep, and though I couldn’t celebrate it as usual, the team made it special—surprising me with a cake after the event. That moment meant the world.
